(With a countdown for dramatic effect)
I am going to have to start by saying that this is not the ultimate Top 5 Canberra Burgers list, but more of a good start. With so many good burgers around town, this is clearly a work in progress!
Number 5. The Mookie Deluxe Burger at Mookie. $15
The Mookie Deluxe Burger comes with additional options, and needless to say, I added maple smoked bacon and pickles to this already delicious fusion burger. It appears simple, but it is anything but. The fusion is all in that secret Mookie sauce, which was extraordinary. The 100% Angus hormone-free beef is ground daily and hand massaged to deliver the perfect fat percentage every time.
Let there be no doubt- I will be going back for this simple, but super tasty burger.
100% pure grass-fed black Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese & Mookie sauce.
Mookie Deluxe: Add maple smoked bacon & pickles for $3.
Number 4. Cheeseburger at Ona Manuka. $21
This is one super delicious cheeseburger and has a well-deserved place on my list as one of the best burgers on the menu in Canberra at the moment. Every element was fantastic- a whopping great big juicy patty with plenty of cheese, amazing pickled onions, covered in bacon jam, and house-made BBQ sauce.
Overall, I was left speechless, full and very impressed! Thanks, guys. Side note: the fries were super crunchy and delicious.
CHEESEBURGER GF-O 21 beef patty, cheddar, zuni pickled onions, bacon Jam, house-made barbecue sauce, cress, fries.
Number 3. Greasy at Grease Monkey. $15
I love going to this place. Their Greasy (or Double Deluxe) is one of my go-to burgers when I am in the city. The extra tasty Greasy’s sauce and GM relish transform a simple juicy cheeseburger into a smashing feast for one.
Wash it down with a Greasy lager and you are onto a truly winning combo!
Greasy- Beef patty, lettuce, cheese, onion, pickles, GM relish, Greasy’s sauce (GF*).
Number 2. Brod Burger at Brodburger. $14.50
From the original red caravan down by the lake, now based out at Capital Breweries, I was trying to keep with a cheeseburger theme, so I grabbed a Brod burger with the cheddar option. The bread was soft, the cheese was cheesy and the aioli-topped flame-grilled burger was juicy and tender. Everything was as it was meant to be, and I was a happy chappy.
Next time, I will be going back to my old favourite- the brie- just to make it even richer!
Number 1. Cheesy Americano at Boss Burger. $13
This new kid on the block won’t stay that way for long! The food truck is parked in the carpark on Blackall St in Barton, which is pretty good for all those public servants who know “what is what” with their burgers. The chef behind this truck hails from a wealth of Sydney fine dining experience and is all about packing flavour into his menu. The Cheesy Americano was spectacular, with its American pickles flown in from Detroit, super smokey bacon and that homemade mustard mayo. Definitely one of the best burgers I have ever eaten.
Side note: I hear they have a new Lamb tzatziki burger coming out, and I will absolutely be getting down there to taste that baby!
Now if your favourite burger isn’t here on our list- do not panic, do not despair. I know there has to be another list of amazing burgers. I’ve heard too much about some other burgers that I need to give a good hot go! And also- who am I kidding? I will always want to try new burgers!
