TheCanberra5 Fried Chicken

There is a reason that Fried Chicken is so popular all around the world. Chickens are just about everywhere and super tasty, especially when fried and transformed into tasty, tasty goodness. So here are 5 fantastic Canberra versions that won’t leave you peckish!

5. Soul Cartel, 6 Farr Place, Isaacs ACT 2607.

Popping!

I ordered the Popcorn Chicken for the kids, without really thinking I would be writing about it. But then I saw it, and as you can see, they look great! They were golden and crunchy, covered in ranch sauce, cheese and chives- which combined into a mouth-watering snack for any occasion! With so many good options at the Farrside Cafe, we will be back to try more.

4. Fricken, Pop-up Food Truck, Canberra ACT 2600.

Something to waffle about …

Straight out of the gate, I am going to say that the name is great and so is the chicken. Kind of obvious really, it wouldn’t be on this list if it wasn’t! Who would have thought that waffle cones and fried chicken were such an amazing combination? Not me, but what do I know! Great name, great chicken- great combo!

3. The Café at Rodneys, 24 Beltana Road, Piallago ACT 2609.

The secret spicy sauce is amaze-balls!

I love coming to The Café, the relaxed atmosphere and playground make it a regular haunt for us. I also have to admit that I order the same thing every time. If you want to try a Korean Fried Chicken that is golden and crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, this is the place to come. The tangy secret chilli sauce is delicious, but be warned- it has a little kick.

2. Lazy-Su, 1/9 Lonsdale St, Braddon ACT 2612.

A delicious fusion of flavours.

I came in for a midday lunch and found great value and satisfaction. It doesn’t get more fused than a Buttermilk Fried Chicken Bao-gur, with peanut sauce and American Cheese. Once ordered, there were no regrets. This is going on my Braddon food memory list. There is also a substantial cocktail list that needs exploring at some stage, too!

1. Ricardos Cafe, 1/1 Bowman St, Macquarie ACT 2614.

Bacon and fried chicken- the perfect combo.

Boy oh boy, what a cracker! I absolutely loved this fusion burger! I am so totally sold on this fusion that I feel a top 5 fusion dishes coming on. I am a firm believer that everything is better with bacon, and this Korean Fried Chicken Burger is definitely no exception. It is, in fact, so good that I want to move to Belconnen to be closer to it.

5 Reasons to Check Out the Beef and Barley High Tea!

Burgers and High Tea?  It’s a unique pairing, with a masculine twist.  Naturally, we were intrigued when we heard of this new offering from Beef and Barley.

TheCanberra5 put on our best stretchy pants and made our way to Kingston to indulge in the meatiest of High Teas.  Here are our Top 5 Reasons to Check Out the Beef and Barley High Tea …

5.  Halloumi Bites.

Halloumi Bites- cheesy goodness!

These delicious morsels are the stuff of cheesy dreams.  With the right amount of salty flavour, they make a nice balance to a meaty meal.  Our tip is to eat them first, Halloumi is always better hot!

4.  The Drinks.

Beer and Bubbles.

A glass of bubbly or schooner of beer accompanies the meal.  If you’re serious about settling in for a session, an additional cost of $20 each will see your drinks become bottomless!*  That’s my kinda High Tea!

3.  Dessert.

Brownies, macarons & popcorn- oh my!

Every meal should be followed by dessert, and a delicious selection of sweet treats accompanies this burger fest.  These little bites of sweetness were perfect for the drop in blood sugar levels- which occurred after eating enough beer battered chips to fill the Tuggeranong Valley.  Speaking of chips …

2.  The Chips.

Amazing!

Crispy on the outside, piping hot and fluffy on the inside.  The chips almost deserve their own High Tea.  Seriously, these were some of the best we’ve ever had!  With a few secret spices thrown in, the beer battered chips have been on my mind ever since!

1.  The Burgers.

Beef and Barley sliders … delicious!

The number 1 spot on our Top 5 list goes to the feature item- the burgers.  Each Burger High Tea participant receives two sliders- the pulled pork “Miss Piggy” and the beef “Uncle Sam”.  Flavoursome, filling and just damn tasty. Miss Piggy may just have pipped Uncle Sam at the post. It definitely came down to a photo finish!

Another delicious item from the Burger High Tea- Guindilla pepper wrapped in prosciutto.

A massive High Five to the Beef and Barley crew for this fun and innovative concept.  It’s certainly bringing in the crowds, attested by the number of patrons we saw indulging in Burger High Teas.

Beef and Barley- proving Burgers and High Tea is a marriage made in burger heaven.
